Gemutlichkeit

a new way to enjoy skiing

The Culture of American Skiing

Make no bones about it – skiing in America is great. We have fantastic ski resorts, incredible snow making to augment Mother Nature, exciting ski towns and relatively inexpensive season passes that allow us to ski multiple ski resorts all across the country.

However, we’re Americans.

We invented “fast food”, we’re impatient as hell, and we’re completely convinced that the world spins faster on “our side”. We ski fast, don’t like long lift lines and detest waiting in line for that $25 hamburger with fries.

Experience European Culture

Skiers … let us take a lesson from our ancestors in the old world. Skiing is great in Europe too, but it’s the culture that makes it special. Gemutlichkeit (a word with no English counterpart to do it justice) describes the pure enjoyment of skiing in Europe.  It’s a slower pace, friendliness and good cheer. It’s the chance to appreciate and revel in all the little moments skiing offers. It’s conversation in broken English and sharing a table in the cafe with someone you never met before – but then walking away feeling they’ve just become your best friends. The Euro’s ski more for the social aspect than the sheer pleasure of sliding down the mountain. They know the location of all great mountain pasta and wurstl huts. They know there is more to be taken from the experience of skiing than speed and skill.

It’s our specialty here at Alpin Luxe – introducing Americans to Gemutlichkeit. We ski all day, stopping frequently to eat a little here and drink a little there, but it doesn’t feel like it. It’s cozy, a sense of belonging and social acceptance. Embracing Gemutlichkeit allows you to step out, meet people from multiple countries who share your same passions. Come see what’s happening on the “other side of the pond” – I guarantee you’ll love it!

Hope to see you soon for some turns and a café fertig to finish off a great day in the Austrian, Swiss or Italian Alps!
